Kira

Kira heard a siren type of noise wailing through her ear. Was it morning? Was it still night? She was still delirious and still in a sex fog from her time with Mogul.

She groaned and rolled over in the twin bed that was already too small for one person, let alone sharing the tight space with a muscular giant like Mogul. She realized that the shrieking sound was originating from an old fashioned alarm clock.

Sighing she hit it, knocking it off the table. As she sat up, she noticed her phone sticking out of her jeans pocket. It had been a while since she’d checked in at the University, but she didn’t want to call Dan. Frowning, she decided to call her friend Penny who also worked there.

She fumbled through squinty, bleary eyes to turn it back on and find her contacts’ list. She looked at the screen and waited several seconds for the numbers to un-fuzz.

As soon as she found Penny’s name on the screen, she swiped the call button.

“Kira!” a voice hissed out softly.

“Penny?” Kira asked curiously. It was eight-thirty in the morning, so she knew Penny was at work, but it wasn’t as if she had to whisper, she worked in an office not a library.

“Kira?” Penny’s voice sounded muddled and far away.

“Penny,” Kira said again and sat up in the bed, pulling the white sheets over her naked body, “I can’t hear you very well, why are you whispering?”

“Thank god you called, I need to talk to you,” Penny’s voice sounded frantic even with one sentence, and it made Kira’s blood run icy.

“What’s wrong?” Kira asked in an alarmed tone that made Mogul stir. He blinked and groaned, rolling over as he stared up at her with perplexity.

“It’s about your father,” Penny said in an urgent hushed voice.

“Okay…” Kira trailed off. She felt like a rock had just been dropped into her stomach. “Tell me what happened.”

Mogul sat up. His features were etched in concern. He ran a hand through his wavy dark hair and his forehead wrinkled with suspicion.

“He’s everywhere,” Penny said, keeping her voice low. “Him and his agents. They have been visiting everywhere you like to go. Anywhere and everywhere that they know you frequent, they have shown up and they’ve been interrogating your associates to find you.”

“What?” Kira felt her mouth drop in shock. Her cheeks suddenly felt hot, along with the tips of her ears. She was hit with a wave of nausea. “They have been to the university looking for me?”

“Yes, they are here,” Penny screeched softly into the receiver. “They have been borderline harassing people looking for you.”

“Oh my God, are you okay?” Kira said. She drew a hand up to her open mouth. She felt as if the world was going to cave in on her any second.

“I’m fine right now, but I’m worried about you,” Penny whispered. “What is going on? Why are your father’s agents so desperate to find you? Is everything alright?”

Penny spoke a million miles a second.
